NEWS APRIL 2008 |
||||
The School Brightens the Village project should soon be moving ahead: we have received confirmation from two funding sources: the Town of Sutton is sponsoring the program to the tune of $2,000 and the CIBC, $1,000. We greatly appreciate this support! We’re now waiting for an answer from the Brome-Missisquoi Cultural Fund. The project must be self-financing, so we very much hope that we will receive a positive response from this third partner. Once again this year, we would like to thank the Town of Sutton for awarding us a $5,000 operating grant. The Town also allows us to use the Gallery premises free of charge. So be sure to come to our exhibitions and bring your friends! A big thank you to Immeubles Dynamiques, Royal Lepage and Roger Gervais, who funded the Sutton Going Green exhibition, which runs until May 18, 2008. |
We’re currently working on the programming for the 2008-2009 Season. We have received 67 submissions, a record number, which shows artists’ interest in exhibiting at our Gallery! A selection committee formed of artists and well-known people in the arts community will be choosing works for five shows. The three other shows in our season will be selected by the artistic director. With the approval of the Board, Claude Dagenais, a professional photographer from Sutton, is now a member of the Gallery’s Board of Directors. The end of April marks the start of the annual membership renewal period. You will soon be receiving a letter in which we call upon your generosity. Arts Sutton is a non-profit arts organization and needs the support of its members and the Sutton community. We’re counting on you! |
We have a summer job for a student. Please contact Catherine Audet at (450) 538-2563 for more information. From April 15 – 17 the Gallery is holding a special event for Sutton elementary school pupils to introduce them to the artwork of Francine Denault, a painter who lives in Bolton. The children will also be creating their own art, which will be exhibited at the Gallery until Thursday, April 17. This event is being organized in conjunction with the Val-des-Cerfs School Board. The Gallery is pleased that it has been able to offer, since February, free guided tours to the kids at the daycare in the John Sleeth Community Centre. To date, about 40 children have seen the last two shows. They are very receptive to the works of art and make great comments. Tours are planned for each of the upcoming exhibitions. The program will continue until the end of the school year. |
